Almost April

 I cannot play catchup with the months in between so we will just go from here.

 

  Saturday Eve. we attended opening reception at the City of Brea Gallery's Made in California juried show.  This is the view, my art quilt - The Other Down Under - front and center in the window.  It is flanked by 2 black and white etchings of birds.  I must say it looks wonderful and I am thrilled.  It was a fun reception - thank you Brea.




My art quilt - Life Happens In The Space Between - was at the Oceanside Museum of Art November thru January in Fiber Interpretations.  We were paired with quilt in the larger Quilt National exhibition.  I remain thrilled to have been asked to participate.  The quilt is now home and ready for another adventure.

We went to the rehearsal of the Teton symphony rehearsal. Music was great and I played with new camera with 20x zoom.





You can almost read the music and might be the start of a quilt or collage.


Still in Teton Village, we didn't ride but many were waiting.


In the words of Portlandia, "put a bird on it". - somehow makes it art.


Drum roll, this morning a mama and baby appeared just beyond the deck. Neighbor has a salt lick, the main attraction. We enjoyed watching for a long time. Tom was almost late for golf.

Moving through August

Our trip from Star Valley Ranch and back, just not in any correct order. This marvelous sign can be found not from from the Thayne-Bedford road, not far from where we are staying. We have no clue.


- this painting was found on an old building in Shoshoi, Wy. Painted in 1979 by Bart Vroman. He apparently painted many pictures but most have been painted over.



Devil's Tower, a national monument. We walked around the base, 1.3 miles. We watched people climbing up and down.









Deadwood, SD - one day before the official opening of Sturgis. Thousands of motorcycles. I have many photos of my favorite bike.




Tom and I below Crazy Horse monument. One theory is that it will take 80 more years to complete.




We visited Mt Rushmore during the day and returned in the evening for the lighting ceremony. It was very moving and very patriotic.

We are visiting my brother and sister in law, not a bad part of our world.

FLOWERS IN MY HAIR AND EXPECTATIONS

My latest quilt, Flowers in my hair and expectations has been juried into Rituals, an invitational special exhibit that will premier at the Long Beach International Quilt show this July. To read more about the exhibit - please check out http://dinnerateightartists.blogspot.com/

The wording was created in Photoshop and the fabric printed by spoonflower.com , an online fabric printing company.

The words on the top half are sort of blind expectations - all positive. The bottom portion - the darker fabric, lists some of the realities of this life together. The letters can be seen better in this close up.
The couple have been collaged using vintage kimono fabrics. It is my interpretation of the original photos taken almost 45 yrs ago. wow.

working towards the end of March

The last week or so of the last week or so of March.

Tom has been working on a turned/carved project. A gal at work gave him a piece of wood - odd shaped. He created this hand with floating ring. The entire sculpture is about 4 inches tall -


Speaking of Tom, he is retiring at the end of this month. I had M and M's printed with messages and an image of him. Party is on the 25th. I have a reoccuring dream that people ate all the candy and didn't notice the printing - ( Tom thinks I am nuts)

Pam and I went to FIDM (Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising) downtown Los Angeles, to see the display of this years costumes from current movies. After the Gallery show we went to the Scholarship Store , looking for bargains -

a dollar or so a yard.available in size 12 only.
Then we went to lunch at Bogota Louise - known for their macaroons and desserts.
We did have lunch. Had a fun day.

Not a usual ART day

Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) is working on a new installation - Levitated Mass, which involves moving a 340 ton granite boulder across southern California. It started in or near Riverside and will settle in the Wilshire district of LA. It moves at night and in the day time the rock and transporter are on view.

Today I decided, spur of the moment, to go track it down. It was in Long Beach yesterday and moved over night, I had the cross streets. In this day of all things electronics I sure could have used my old Thomas Guide, which I had deemed out dated. Me and my cell phone and Tom at his computer at work got me to the location.

It is really big. I think I heard the mover/rig had 156 tires. The big rock is covered with white
plastic and can be seem below and above the carrier.

I wonder how many cars were towed!

I loved my little get away, gas consumption and all.
I fit it in between having new car alarm desensitized (which failed)
and trip to physical therapy. Yesterday was 4 months since my
back surgery, progressing.
